When I Grow Up!...

Recently my counterpart wrote about her visit to a strip tease class, and titled it, "I wanna be a stripper when I grow up!". Well, I went to an actual strip club this weekend, and I must say, the strippers there were surely all grown up!, lol. The things those woman can do with their bodies, lol...I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. And the way that they command full attention of all the men in their prescence, is an admirable quality! Their bodies make you want to run out and get a Brazillian, lol! I tell you, it takes some real balls to have enough confidence to strut around naked and have strangers practically all up and in between your everything! They flirt, they tease, they flaunt, they smile....they make their money, and their on there way!...and aint nothing wrong with that at all!:)

A Piece of ME

I had the privellege of hanging out with my best buddy this weekend and doing something a little different, as she put it. We went to see "A Piece of Me", a stage play by playwright Jermaine Smith. The premise for the play was a young man trying to battle the anger and contempt that he held for his abusive and alcoholic father in the midst of a troubling time, and when his father and family needed him the most. This play dealt with drug abuse, sexual abuse, infidelity, and strengthening family ties...all the while sprinkling in The Lord, here and there. Now I have never been to what I would call a "religious play", nor would I categorize myself as an avid church goer, but the message of the play was loud and clear, and I didnt need a Bible to understand it.

"A Piece of Me" was cleverly written and very entertaining, once the ball got rolling. But my only discrepancy with it would be the issue of sex, which the play touched on by having a short, somewhat awkward scene, about being celibate. Now I know many a church goer who tote their Bible around M-F, and then are "shakin' it fast" in the club by the weekend. Their preaching fidelity and celibacy on one day, and then are trying to get in your pants the next. I went to Atlantic City this weekend, a mini sin city, and was almost trampled in the crowd trying to get on the bus back home at 6 in the morning because people were trying to make it to 9am church service! I mean come on, shouldnt we be practicing what we preach?, as the old saying goes...

The NEW Path Train!!

So I finally got to take a ride on the NEW and improved Path train this morning, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed! As soon as I saw it pull into the station my eyes lit up!, and upon entering through one of the 3 sets of doors, they got even bigger! First of all, the cars are huge!, providing way more riding space for commuters. The seats are extra big and provide just the right amount of space for riders to sit comfortably during their trek from NJ to NY, and vice versa. There's a nice and loud automated "conducter voice" which announces each stop and the next, so that riders can be fully aware of where they are headed. Thats going to be great for tourists, who always seem to hop on the wrong train, lol. And last but not least, the ride was very smooth and quiet....providing a nice and easy ride to start off my work day!:)
Nice going NJ Transit!

WTC...FINALLY Making Progress...

As we embark upon the 8th anniversary of the tragic World Trade Center catastrophe, I am some what delighted to say that we are finally making progress. I travel to New Jersey every day on my commute to work, and have passed the WTC site almost everyday after its re-opening. As Ive looked out the window over the years Ive noticed the snail paced progress that was being made in the attempts to rectify and recover the site where the World Trade Center once stood. I slowly started to not even bother to look, because the debris filled site was just a constant reminder of what once was, and of how far we had to go to get to where we needed to be.

Well out of the rubble and ashes and debris rises a new clean slate that builders have started working on to bring forth the new and improved World Trade Center....I'd like to call it a great progress in the making...

Everybody's Different

Everybody's Different....

Everyone is different stems from a radio talk show I listened to yesterday while running to the dollar general :0) The radio jockey talked about how the current economy is affecting couple's relationships. He went on to say that although the two people decide that they no longer wish to be involved because of the economy many are choosing to remain in the same home and in some instances remain to have so called 'guiltless' sex. WTF! Is it that hard to move out on your own and set up shop on your own turf? Once married couples decide to get a divorce or 'separation' yet still sleep in the same bed for the sake of the wallet oh and let's not forget about how confused the children must be after you've sat them down for the "This is not working" talk yet they see you two behaving as you would on a normal day. I just don't get it????? but I have to remind myself that everybody is different.

Angry Black Woman

I had a conversation recently with a man in my life about the "Angry Black Woman," and he had the nerve (neck rolling) to say that I could be categorized as an ABW because I don't like stupidity and often get angered at adults displaying ignorance and lack of commonsense. I beg your pardon Sir! lol Just kidding but really the ABW has often been categorized as a black woman who is achievement oriented, kind of no nonsense, not particularly kind or compassionate but driven. I would admit that I am driven when it comes to things I am passionate about but by no means am I an angered woman who always is walking around with a frown on my face and my hand on my hips. I am not a tart-tounged, neck rolling, loud mouthed sistah.  I am not ghetto-fabulous, I do not feel as though my life is grim and bleek and nor am I anyone's babymomma looking for a hand out or mad at the "Man" for my position in life. Today the ABW is so ingrained in our society that the tag gets slapped on the back of any black woman who is assertive or in a position of power. I must admit yes one of my biggest pet peeves is stupidity. I am angered when interacting with adults who feel as tough ignorance is bliss and common sense is optional BUT I am not an ABW.
I am me ;0)

The Ex Factor

"By all means, move at a glacial pace-you know how that thrills me!"

I love that line from Devil Wears Prada and it is most appropriate for my topic on the Ex Factor. I was talking with a girlfriend the other day and this topic has been on my mind recently. The topic I am referring to is how long do you have to wait for a ring before he becomes the "Ex Factor?" I dated my last guy for about 3 years and we hardly ever talked about engagement and if we did it was in third party. Come on give me a break? I have learned sooooo much about myself and what I want going forward and for starters I certainly am NOT dating for 3 years and counting on a ring. That is just absurd. Don't you know if I'm the one within the 1st year? I get wanting to wait awhile, perhaps move in together, meet the family, check out the credit history etc but even all that can be done in two years. What's the sense in playing house if you don't want to settle in it? I'm getting older and as I approach my 30th birthday I continue to think about two of my future goals 1. Getting married and 2. Having children and most certainly in that order too! As I unpacked my Opera gift bag this morning from Saturday night, I came across a b card entitled Ex-cessories, which sounded interesting so of course I went on their website and Ta daaah I was faced with luxurious jewls given to women by their ex's LMAO this is great! Their modo is "Don't get mad....Break Even!" How appropriate for a woman scorned whose been wearing her engagement years for the past 5 years and he won't set a date.......

The Female Hater

I'm starting with the famous question, "Can't we all just get along?" Apparently NOT! I love females as friends and being one myself I think that it's nothing greater than a genuine and long lasting female friendship. Even one of my best friends is none other than my 2 che partner, J.Genese and I don't even see her annually either. We chat over the phone and online mostly but I still feel a strong connection to her regardless. I thought of this concept of the female hater stemming from my work experiences. I experienced subtle and blatant hate at my last employer and most of it was quite comical. It came from peers and a supervisor alike and I viewed it as 'hate' all the same. I mean why can't a woman give another woman a compliment on her shoe you just eye fcked instead of rolling your eyes or if you admire another's shape because she doesn't have the muffin top you've been carrying around for the past 5 years or the fact that her real hair is actually more luxurious than the wig sitting atop  your dome or that she is a professional- looks the part and certainly speaks it and you think she's a sell out trying to be white. Get a grip speaking, English is not selling out ladies. Read a damn book! Oh and let's not forget the famous fashion inquiry of "Where did you get that?" and you are met with the response of Paris or Milan or something totally ridiculous and facetious. Yeaaaah right, find it on a map &itch! lol I  thought recently with the possible opportunity to work in an all black establishment that "Oh this is going to be sooo cool working around my sistahs!" but then I had a conversation with some female friends who explained that the 'hate' factor might just get kicked up a notch. I was so disappointed in hearing this but I can't even front like I didn't get a few dirty looks during my 4 day working interview. I'm looking for an applause when I walk through the door and my suit makes you wish you could change lol It's so disheartening when I hear females say I only have male friends because females are so 'catty." So I ask again, "Can't we all just get along?"

WEEZY F BABY

Anyone who knows me knows that I love hardcore rap music. Over the years I've been playing the same ole' Clue cd from back in 98 but my favorite rapper of all time has to be Lil Wayne aka Weezy F Baby! I just love his swagger, his lyrics and that infamous laugh he does on the records. I adore that "I can't feel my face" cd he produced with Juelz Santa. Wayne is not only a great rap artist turned rockstar but also an intellectual as well as I learned on his interview with Katie Kurick.

The Gold Package

Let's see what your packing....

Now all the ladies know that there are some men out there living in a false reality when it comes to size. We've all heard the infomercials "Does size really matter?" lol Um heck yeah lol and this is only the start of the issue. Where shall I begin? I'm sure you've encountered some that maybe in their dreams, feel that their penis is large and packing…hefty enough to be worthy of Magnum brand protection; however the branding clearly states XL on the box so if you are swimming in it then maybe you need something more the size of a small waterballon perhaps. You know the kind that you had to struggle to fit over the faucet to fill when you were little lol I don’t know what’s so special about this particular condom anyway but I’m convinced that the gold foil packaging has something to do with it. Anything with gold foil says, “Exclusive,” especially to the unsuspecting woman that doesn't know he can't fit the bill. Ladies get excited when they see the gold foil come out because they are thinking logically that "Oh my he needs to wear a MAGNUM hmmm he must be large and in charge." But…I and other women feel that some of you are abusing the Magnum Gold Foil Membership. And you know who you are. LOL

I wanna be a stripper when I grow up!

Last night I went to Opera to attend the Pole la Teaz demonstration. I was invited by a friend that is a member of their gym and I've heard rave reviews. Last night the class was focused on sexy walking and moves to stimulate your partner. Now while the instructions were very elementary for me lol I can see the benefit of attending one of the more advanced classes. I've been to quite a few of the clubs here in Atlanta to name a few: Body Tap, Magic City, Dirty Rats lol, and Dancers' Elite. I've learned a thing or two from just watching but I imagine that there is nothing like actual hands on learning! They have a class entitiled "Jiggle It" that focuses on how to work a woman's greatest asset "her ass." :0) I think I will sign myself up for one of their casual classes for $15 and see for myself all that Pole la Teaz has to offer. Clear heels here I come! lmao

Competitive Advantage....

Think you know your competition? Think again. What gives you competitive advantage over your competition in your business and personal relationships? I read the book cover of Competitive Advantage and this title sent a blaring alarm off in my head. It's rather catchy and makes perfect sense. I thought about it from both perspectives of business and personal. On the business side marketing and technology is key. Long gone are the days where you can survive without a website and referrals can only keep you afloat for so long. Shoot even a day laborer might get more business if he had a vcard! You have to get your brand name out there so it becomes a household name and even so outside the normal circles in which you do business. I learned while working at RBC that you should keep a pipeline of leads and this pipeline is fed by your inner circle. As it relates to that particular business your inner circle would be a real estate agent, lawyer, physican, insurance agent and other bankers. These five professions in relation to banking would help to generate new business for you. Think about what businesses you patronize and how they can in turn help to grow your business. I love learning and applying it to other avenues which brings me to the personal side of things. Personally I like to support black businesses first. I'm so tired of hearing how little the dollar is circulated in my community before it ends up back in general population. I even sport at "Bought Black" button on my members only jacket and often get comments and inquiries on it. Although I originally got it from buying Jay Z's black album it has alternative meaning for me. Also when I think of personal relationships in terms of courting you market yourself to the best of your ability in order to attract those that you wish to 'patronize' your business. We do this alot better in our personal pursuits than on the business front and I think if we can figure out a way to marry them both we could discover a goldmine.

Black and White and Sometimes Grey

I was just thinking about the differences 'if any' there are between black and white businesses. I've had the pleasure of working for a black owned small business this past week and was truly inspired by being in the company of such an intelligent African American CEO. After getting my barrings together and being more comfortable in my environment I started to think to myself of how 'different' it felt being in an all black corporate environment. Over my career I've had several supervisor's and only one was African American. I don't know if by default but she was my favorite and mostly likely it is because of our chemistry and mutual respect for one another. I noticed that when you take away the 'racial barrier' it has been my experience that I felt free to really perform to my best ability and not feel as though there were underlining meanings to feedback and certain instances that can occur. At my last employer there were times where I would be speaking to a co-worker and the supervisor would walk by and the co-worker would almost scurry back to their desk almost as if to motion "Let me get back in line before Massa get's mad!" lol Now I am making light of the situation here but it did bother me enormously that there was always a feeling of walking on eggshells in some corporate environments. I pray that I am hired FT at this new BLACK place of business so that I can grown and reach my best potential being mentored by one of my own. ;)

Emotional (Wo)MEN

When it comes to emotions, its women that are usually pegged as being "overly sensitive", or "too emotionally attached", and so on and so forth. And while I will admit that I do have my fare share of emotions, I many times find that it's MEN who are just as, if not even more emotional than women are. I need a strong, confident, supportive man. I cant tell you how many men I know that act more like a (wo)man than I do. Sensitivity is all well and good, and I love a man that can express his feelings with you and show a softer side, NOW AND THEN, but there is nothing worse than a whinny, complaining, super sensitive, overly dramatic man! Come one! Who's really wearing the pants here? I always find it funny when I hear my girlfriends complaining about how they just wanted to have sex (ill say that instead of the 4 letter word of choice), and the guy wanted to cuddle and caress! Or when I have (wo)men catching a hissy fit because I didnt return or answer there phone call or text them back in a timely manner. Isnt it supposed to be the other way around?, according to what men say? Pleeease!, Ive had (wo)men show up at my doorstep, friends houses, or other places where they knew I would be just because I didnt answer their call!, lol....now Ive never been that emotional!...
....so I guess its safe to say that when it comes to being emotional, both sexes are guilty as charged!...what do you think?...

"REALITY" TV Time!

Ok first, that picture above is funny, he he he...get it?...well alright anyways....its Reality TV Time, and boy do I watch a lot of it, Monday nights being the ring leader. I cant wait to see who's going home tonight on "Ray J of Love"!, and I think Unique and Danger are finally going to have it out. I must say, doll face Unique has been stepping up her game as of lately, I guess she really does have love for Ray J, or she just really wants to win the most. I think she's too big for him, lol, and omg she may have a beautiful face by far, but does that mean she has to dress like...like that?!, lol....and even though I say I dont watch "I Love Money 2", I already heard that its going to be funny tonight so ill probably tune in...I hope that dang green team finally loses cause Im tired of Safari, Buck Wild (with her fake "black girl"/hillbilly accent) and Frank the Entertainer thinking they running things on these challenges! Oooh!, and speaking of challenges, The infamous Real World/Road Rules challenge is coming back on!, and it looks good! But back to Monday, now I can only watch "I Love Money 2" in between "Dancing With the Stars" because I have to keep up with Lil Kim, who is doing awfully well, and my two favorite professionals, Edyta and Cheryll...man I long to have a ballroom dancers body!!, but I'll take a video girls body as well....and speaking of, I think I missed "Candy Girls" yesterday, but im sure I can catch it on the repeat. I thought I was making reality tv progress when I gave up watching "Rock of Love 2, or 3, or whatever number it is", because last week he got rid of my two favorites and most watchable ones, but Ive only migrated to a new show, "Tough Love", he he he...I dont know whats funnier to watch, this guy find love for 12 hopeless women, or "The Millionare Matchmaker" find love for hopeless men, millionares or not, there still pathetic. Thank goodness "The City" is off!, wheeew!....I get some time to breath before "The Hills" comes back on, yaaay! I still have to catch up on and catch the new "Real Housewives of NY" this week, and then tune in for the season finale of "The Bad Girls Club"...and then I think Im done with my reality TV fix for the week!
....now that wasnt so bad was it?:)

Me....the Fashionista??

Ok...not to toot my own horn, but I must say, when it comes to fashion, I do know a thing or two (or three). And its not just me that believes so, Im frequently complimented on everything from my shoes, to my accessories, to even the color of my nail polish, lol. Im always asked where do I work?, and have been told on numerous occassions that I belong working in a fashion. So last week I was having this same conversation with my mother, who's always admired my nonchalant sense of fashion. She told me that while I do look like I should be working in some type of fashion house, dont just go for any old store, I should aim for the big leagues! So on my morning commute to work I was inspired by our convo and decided to make a list of all the big league fashion houses. To think, I could be working for one of them. But who doesnt dream of working in fashion for a living you know? I guess thats what they call a pipe dream. But anywho, I got to work, and spent that Friday sending out my resume to the somewhat hard to find human resources departments of Gucci, Prada, Louis, and so on and so forth. And then I went on about my day. By Wednesday when my phone rang I had totally forgotten about my newfound career path, so I was in absolute shock when I was on the phone with a rep from Chanel doing a quick phone interview for a position! Needless to say I was inspired all over again! I can see it now....me walking down Fashion Avenue!, and really belonging there! Hey....you never know!:)

I am truly inspired! I recently went on an interview with Vantage Point Staffing and was truly inspired by the possibility of working for one of their clients. The owner of my 'future employer' truly inspires me as she is a successful female black business owner and charitable woman as well. After conducting my research for this week's working interview and reading online all to learn about her past education, employment and charity involvement I was inspired to take charge of my life and give back to the community as well. I have been blessed many times over by God and should take time out of my life to give to someone less fortunate. I used to give back personally by mentoring a high school girl a few years ago as well as volunteered through my past employer's "Give" initiative; in which I started the first effort by coordinating a planting day at Excel, a community center for disabled men and women in Smyrna. I even was able to have a landscaping vendor of my former employer to donate free plant materials and soil to the community center. I was so pleased and proud of myself after we completed the project in knowing that I helped to shape the future of volunteering at LMGI. I look forward to signing myself up to volunteer and I especially would like to do so with some involvement in our youth's education and financial awareness.
If someone was to ask, "What inspires you most?" I would have to say the possibility of my future's potential.....Knowledge is empowering!

Role Reversal

I was chatting last night about a few topics of conversation and role reversal came into play. We were discussing relationships and how men and women can tend to fall into role reversal whether it is because of habit, adaptability or choice. I specifically thought about women, being female myself, and how many traditional male characterisitics one can embodie in this modern day. Let's take a moment to do a brief evaluation and answer yes or no to the following questions if you are female:

1. Do you own a screwdriver, hammer or drill and possess the knowledge of how to use it?
2. Can you change out a lightbulb?
3. Do you take out your own trash?
4. Can you do anything to your car, besides pumping gas, like changing a brake light etc if needed?
5. Can you aim, point and shoot a gun?
6. Do you bring home the lion's share of income if you are in a relationship?
7. Do you or have you ever pick (ed) up the bill when eating out with a male counterpart?
8. Can you or have you ever done what is considered man's yardwork, not gardening?
9. Can you do a man's push up? lol
10. Can you or have you ever moved furniture (light or heavy) on your own?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions do you feel as though this makes you 'masculine' in any way shape or form? Now I have to admit that I have been in relationships in the past where I owned more tools lol or knew how to fix something around the house that he did not; however all of the so called 'masculine' traits that I have first hand knowledge of first stems from my father teaching both myself and my brother how to do certain things in life or from adapting to men these days lacking in departments in which they should not. I chose the picture above with Angelina Jolee slouched in her office in the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith because she played a very powerful, successful woman who made just as much money as her man and could shoot with the best of them. I can have done all those things and more listed in my questions, let me know what you think? Does this make me more masculine than I should be as a woman or is it good for both women and men to know how to do some of the things that are usually associated with the opposite sex. Let me know your thoughts......

Free as a Bird....

Today I felt free as bird because I decided to rent a bike and go riding on the Silver Comet Trail. It was an impulse decision but I've contemplated it before on more than one occassion. Ok so I walked in past all the cool looking cycles and asked how much to rent a bike? The man kindly told me it would be 10 bucks for the regular comfort bike and upwards of 16 per hour for the space age, athletic bikes so I opted for the 10 dollar one. I gave them my cc information and off in the wind I went. I have to admit I was a bit wobbly on it at first as I hadn't rode a bike in years but I quickly adjusted and was speeding past the walking folks. I felt like a kid again with the wind beneath my wings and listening to the nature surrounding me. Ahhhh I felt a sense of serenity.

Silence is Golden

Silence is defintely golden. I find myself taking a mental vacation these days and retreating in the dark corners of my mind for some blissful silence. It is hard to find peace and serenity in a world filled with noise from the cars driving by with their loud music or motors, children playing and laughing in the streets, alarms blarring from firetrucks and ambulances, horns honking, the radio playing in the car or someone's voice in conversation. I have so much on my mind these days and I need a mental vacation.

We began the night on the hip-hop side, but I knew we wouldnt stay there for long since 2 out of 4 of us were of Spanish heritage....so off to the other we went! Now, Im not one to brag, but I have dabbled in a Salsa lesson here and there, he he he. I think I impressed myself, dancing, swaying, spinning, and dipping all in my 4 inch leopard stilletos! But that lasted all of about 1 hour!!, lol...I thought I was doing something too!, lol...I cant hang like I used to! We got there at 11pm, on the dot mind you....and by like 1:30am we were heading for the dinner!!, lol....man....the life of an almost (30) year old!

Check it Out!

GAGA for Lady GaGa!!!

A woman with style is my kind of woman! Hot on the scene right now, I am absolutely L.O.V.I.N.G Lady GaGa!! Not only is her albulm hot, but so is she! With expressive and bold lyrics, catchy hooks, and "dance" beats galore, "The Fame" is definitely one albulm I will be downloading onto my ipod. I listented to "p p p poker face, p p poker face" like 10 times on my commute to work this morning, and it surely put a pep in my step! But not only have I become a fan of her music, I love her style too. Just as she says what she wants in her lyrics, she also wears what she wants too! Not afraid "to go there" makes her edgy and unique. She has a style all her own, that I dont think too many will dare to emmulate...

...im GaGa for Lady GaGa!!:)
