Me....the Fashionista??

Ok...not to toot my own horn, but I must say, when it comes to fashion, I do know a thing or two (or three). And its not just me that believes so, Im frequently complimented on everything from my shoes, to my accessories, to even the color of my nail polish, lol. Im always asked where do I work?, and have been told on numerous occassions that I belong working in a fashion. So last week I was having this same conversation with my mother, who's always admired my nonchalant sense of fashion. She told me that while I do look like I should be working in some type of fashion house, dont just go for any old store, I should aim for the big leagues! So on my morning commute to work I was inspired by our convo and decided to make a list of all the big league fashion houses. To think, I could be working for one of them. But who doesnt dream of working in fashion for a living you know? I guess thats what they call a pipe dream. But anywho, I got to work, and spent that Friday sending out my resume to the somewhat hard to find human resources departments of Gucci, Prada, Louis, and so on and so forth. And then I went on about my day. By Wednesday when my phone rang I had totally forgotten about my newfound career path, so I was in absolute shock when I was on the phone with a rep from Chanel doing a quick phone interview for a position! Needless to say I was inspired all over again! I can see it now....me walking down Fashion Avenue!, and really belonging there! Hey....you never know!:)

I feel a strong kinship with female entrepreneurs....

I am truly inspired! I recently went on an interview with Vantage Point Staffing and was truly inspired by the possibility of working for one of their clients. The owner of my 'future employer' truly inspires me as she is a successful female black business owner and charitable woman as well. After conducting my research for this week's working interview and reading online all to learn about her past education, employment and charity involvement I was inspired to take charge of my life and give back to the community as well. I have been blessed many times over by God and should take time out of my life to give to someone less fortunate. I used to give back personally by mentoring a high school girl a few years ago as well as volunteered through my past employer's "Give" initiative; in which I started the first effort by coordinating a planting day at Excel, a community center for disabled men and women in Smyrna. I even was able to have a landscaping vendor of my former employer to donate free plant materials and soil to the community center. I was so pleased and proud of myself after we completed the project in knowing that I helped to shape the future of volunteering at LMGI. I look forward to signing myself up to volunteer and I especially would like to do so with some involvement in our youth's education and financial awareness.
If someone was to ask, "What inspires you most?" I would have to say the possibility of my future's potential.....Knowledge is empowering!

Mommy Dearest

Here is Kelis looking oh so 'Mommy Dearest' shopping in her maternity snakeskin cat suit and yellow flip flops. Nasir Jones aka Nas is following behind her as the protective thug like father to be in his fashionable polo, thermal, NY yankee and Adidas.

This picture makes me think of how I'd dress as a fashionable mom on the go? hmmmm

Role Reversal

I was chatting last night about a few topics of conversation and role reversal came into play. We were discussing relationships and how men and women can tend to fall into role reversal whether it is because of habit, adaptability or choice. I specifically thought about women, being female myself, and how many traditional male characterisitics one can embodie in this modern day. Let's take a moment to do a brief evaluation and answer yes or no to the following questions if you are female:

1. Do you own a screwdriver, hammer or drill and possess the knowledge of how to use it?
2. Can you change out a lightbulb?
3. Do you take out your own trash?
4. Can you do anything to your car, besides pumping gas, like changing a brake light etc if needed?
5. Can you aim, point and shoot a gun?
6. Do you bring home the lion's share of income if you are in a relationship?
7. Do you or have you ever pick (ed) up the bill when eating out with a male counterpart?
8. Can you or have you ever done what is considered man's yardwork, not gardening?
9. Can you do a man's push up? lol
10. Can you or have you ever moved furniture (light or heavy) on your own?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions do you feel as though this makes you 'masculine' in any way shape or form? Now I have to admit that I have been in relationships in the past where I owned more tools lol or knew how to fix something around the house that he did not; however all of the so called 'masculine' traits that I have first hand knowledge of first stems from my father teaching both myself and my brother how to do certain things in life or from adapting to men these days lacking in departments in which they should not. I chose the picture above with Angelina Jolee slouched in her office in the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith because she played a very powerful, successful woman who made just as much money as her man and could shoot with the best of them. I can have done all those things and more listed in my questions, let me know what you think? Does this make me more masculine than I should be as a woman or is it good for both women and men to know how to do some of the things that are usually associated with the opposite sex. Let me know your thoughts......

Free as a Bird....

Today I felt free as bird because I decided to rent a bike and go riding on the Silver Comet Trail. It was an impulse decision but I've contemplated it before on more than one occassion. Ok so I walked in past all the cool looking cycles and asked how much to rent a bike? The man kindly told me it would be 10 bucks for the regular comfort bike and upwards of 16 per hour for the space age, athletic bikes so I opted for the 10 dollar one. I gave them my cc information and off in the wind I went. I have to admit I was a bit wobbly on it at first as I hadn't rode a bike in years but I quickly adjusted and was speeding past the walking folks. I felt like a kid again with the wind beneath my wings and listening to the nature surrounding me. Ahhhh I felt a sense of serenity.

Silence is Golden

Silence is defintely golden. I find myself taking a mental vacation these days and retreating in the dark corners of my mind for some blissful silence. It is hard to find peace and serenity in a world filled with noise from the cars driving by with their loud music or motors, children playing and laughing in the streets, alarms blarring from firetrucks and ambulances, horns honking, the radio playing in the car or someone's voice in conversation. I have so much on my mind these days and I need a mental vacation.

Shhhhhhh!

Salsa Time!!...aye! aye!

I had the most fun this weekend hanging out with my college friends at Columbus 72 Nightclub in the city! This sophisticated club featured the latest hip-hop, r&b, and pop music on one side, and then the hottest, (ok like I know whats hot latin music!, lol...hey it sounded hot to me:) Latin music on the other! We began the night on the hip-hop side, but I knew we wouldnt stay there for long since 2 out of 4 of us were of Spanish heritage....so off to the other we went! Now, Im not one to brag, but I have dabbled in a Salsa lesson here and there, he he he. I think I impressed myself, dancing, swaying, spinning, and dipping all in my 4 inch leopard stilletos! But that lasted all of about 1 hour!!, lol...I thought I was doing something too!, lol...I cant hang like I used to! We got there at 11pm, on the dot mind you....and by like 1:30am we were heading for the dinner!!, lol....man....the life of an almost (30) year old!

Check it Out!
